Review : Attune probiotic dark chocolate bars... vegan and certified gluten free!

Attune recently sent me a nice sampling of three of their chocolate bars to try out: dark chocolate, raspberry dark chocolate and coffee bean dark chocolate. Each of these flavors are vegan & certified gluten free!
(Note: Attune has an extensive selection of snacks, but their other options are non-vegan.)

Unlike other chocolate snacks, Attune's line of chocolate bars have many other added benefits, for example they:
  • contain probiotic cultures which aid in digestive and immune health
  • contain a good amount of fiber (12-16% of the daily recommended value per bar) and calcium (20-30% DV).
  • are low in calories (80-90 calories per bar)
  • have absolutely no sodium
Because of these additional features, these are definitely something to consider reaching for whenever you have a chocolate craving.

Dark Chocolate: This bar had a great chocolate flavor and just the right amount of sweetness in combination with a slight bitterness. The chocolate is 68% cacao and flavorful but not overwhelming like some dark chocolates. Because you keep Attune bars refrigerated, they have a nice crunch and are not as creamy as many other chocolates.. they also do no melt before you can eat them! The bar also seemed to have a slight graininess to it, but it wasn't at all unpleasant.

Raspberry Dark Chocolate: This was my definite favorite of the three flavors. The freeze dried raspberries provided a nice crunch and a burst of clean fruit flavor. Cane juice crystals used in the bar likely contribute to the crunch as well. In fact, all of the bars I sampled contain cane juice rather than refined sugars which is another bonus to consider. The hint of deep red from the raspberries also looks gorgeous!

Coffee Bean Dark Chocolate: Personally I found the whole coffee beans in this bar much too strong for me. Then again, I am not in any way a coffee drinker/lover. After trying out a small piece of this bar I handed the rest over to a daily coffee drinker who loved this chocolate. They thought the coffee beans weren't too strong and that the flavor of the dark chocolate in combination with the beans was just perfect. After trying this out they kept telling me how delicious it was!

Attune can be found at many larger grocery store chains and health food stores including Safeway, Vons and Whole Foods. Click here for a store locator.

  1. I would love to stock up on this chocolate! =)
I would have to get a friend to get it for me though since the nearest store to me is a WholeFoods that is 2 hours away!
